Using Previous Versions of Autodesk Software

As per the current Autodesk Subscription Terms and Conditions (article 2.4), subscription customers can install and continue to use previous versions during the term of a subscription contract and any renewal terms.

This is meant so that you have time to ramp up to new software, and continue existing projects on old software. There are a number of conditions attached to using old software; contact your local IMAGINiT Technologies office for complete information.

ArchVision Features Free Multi-View Blocks for AutoCAD Architecture 2008

ArchVision, a leader in the development of image-based content creation, management and delivery solutions, has provided more than 500 Multi-View blocks (MVB) in their 95MB download file. Mine installed directly into my AutoCAD® Architecture 2008 directory.

ArchVision is also featuring a free RPC Plug-in for AutoCAD / AutoCAD Architecture 2008 32-bit and a RPC plug-in for AutoCAD 2008 64-bit.

VIZ or Max?

IMAGINiT's Media & Entertainment Blogger, Mark Gerhard, shares his thoughts about the entertainment and design visualization industry. This month, Mark explains the differences between Autodesk® 3ds Max® and Autodesk® VIZ.

3ds Max is the premier package for design visualization, animation, and rendering. It offers all the tools you'll need to make architectural movies, mechanical visualizations, or do any kind of professional rendering you might desire. It also works with film special-effects and character animation.

VIZ is the exact same software, with certain features turned off. It is the "entry-level" product for the firm that wants to start doing design visualization and animation.

Tip: Revit Crashes on Moves
(Applies to: Revit 2008)

When you move or select elements, Revit crashes. This may occur if the Use Overlay Planes to Improve Display Performance check box is not selected. This option is intended to improve performance. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you keep it enabled.

To prevent Revit from crashing, verify that this check box is selected. It is located on the Graphics tab of the Options dialog box.
