Shift Happens! Basis for "WHY Change?" (YouTube Video)

IMAGINiT's Architectural Blogger, Daniel Hughes, shares his insight on Autodesk architectural software including Revit® Architecture and AutoCAD® Architecture.

Globalization is one of three driving, outside forces to the field of building design.

Why are they changing my software, my business, my phone, my project delivery process, my computer, my TV... my LIFE?

This 6 minute narrated YouTube video presents compelling global statistics (outside forces) that form the basis for the multitude of daily WHY's (changes) affecting all of our lives.

For the opportunist, profitable opportunities always seem to present themselves as "Shift Happens!"

Autodesk 3ds Max 2008 Announced

IMAGINiT's Media & Entertainment Blogger, Mark Gerhard, shares his thoughts about the entertainment and design visualization industry. This month, Mark shares with us an excerpt from his blog:

Autodesk unveiled the next release of Autodesk® 3ds Max at the annual SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles this past August. You can expect some serious productivity improvements coming out of this release.

For a long, long time, Max has suffered in comparison with other products when it came to working with large datasets. Well, they've taken this to heart and worked hard on improving all aspects of working with files that have huge numbers of objects.

There are other additional functions and tools including the Scene Explorer, which combines the power of Schematic View with the functionality from the Select by Name dialog and the tool set Review, which has the ability to see shadows in the viewport.

Tip: Layer Manager Missing
(Applies to: AutoCAD® Architecture 2008)

When you use the Layer Manager command, the Layer Manager dialog box may not appear. This can happen if the dialog box was moved to the edge of the screen and then isn't found or the screen resolution was changed.

To return the Layer Manager dialog box to its default position, follow these steps:

1. Exit AutoCAD® Architecture.
2. On the Start menu (Windows), click run.
3. Enter regedit and click OK.
4. Browse to the following key in the registry and delete it:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.1\ACAD-6004:409\Profiles\<ACAD Profile name>\Dialogs\LayerManager

5. Restart AutoCAD® Architecture and use the Layer Manager command. The Layer Manager dialog box will be displayed in its default location.
