Blog:
BIM Models
IMAGINiT's Architectural Blogger, Daniel Hughes, shares his insight on Autodesk architectural software including Revit Architecture and AutoCAD Architecture. In this month's newsletter, Daniel shares an excerpt from his blog:
What does 6 x 28 equal? It equals the current number
of BIMLibrary product manufacturers' icons listed (6
columns x 28 rows) that provide their products in a
BIM [building information modeling] format.
BIMLibrary and Kawneer provide BIM and supporting
file content (textures, specs) in formats for Revit
, AutoCAD , SketchUp, Bentley, and Archicad.
You can read the rest of this entry at Download
Kawneer BIM-Revit Models.

Blog:
Switching to a Single Monitor
IMAGINiT's Media & Entertainment Blogger, Mark Gerhard shares his thoughts about the entertainment and design visualization industry.
I have two monitors in the office, but when I'm in
the classroom, just one. If I'm not careful, I go to
hit Render or Material Editor and I don't see the new
dialog because it's being displayed on a non-existent
second monitor. Here's the trick to select and move
the off-screen dialog back where it belongs:
1. Activate the particular dialog through its
shortcut or menu entry. 2. Hold Alt +
press Spacebar. 3. Press the letter M
(this invokes the Move command for the dialog). 4.
Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the window
into view.
If that fails to work, rename your 3dsmax.ini file.
When you exit and relaunch max, all will be well.

from Two Monitors to One Monitor entry.

Green Building Design: Bullock Construction
Bullock Construction specialized in refurbishing occupied buildings, and they have implemented Autodesk's Buzzsaw software to help with a four and a half-year project for Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council. The system enables them to store over 2,500 live design documents relating to the project, ensuring everyone is working on the same version of a document. It has also helped Bullock Construction to move towards a paperless office.
Martin Lewis, IT and QA manager at Bullock, says that projects of this type often result in huge amounts of paper being printed out and passed around various members of the collaborating teams. Every time a change is made to a design, a new plan has to be drawn up, printed out and distributed.
The successful implementation means that any authorized team member can access any document relating to the project. By reducing the amount of paper being used throughout the project it has reduced costs and made the process more environmentally friendly.
