  Blog: Cleaning Out Scale Lists

IMAGINiT's Civil Blogger, Doug Benoit, shares his insight on Autodesk civil engineering software including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Land Desktop and AutoCAD Civil 3D. In this month's newsletter, Doug shares an excerpt of his blog:

You know the list that is displayed after selecting the Annotation Scale option along the bottom of the drawing area. All I can say is that the list magically grew, and not in a good way.

So I decided to put my customization skills (if that's what you can call it) to work and came up with a very simple ToolBar button to do all of the cleanup work for me. To do this, I went into the Customize User Interface and created a new button using the following Macro:

You can read the remainder of Doug's tutorial at Simple Button for Cleaning Out the List of Scales.

Tip: Import Images from Google Earth
(Applies to Civil 3D 2007/8)

While Google Earth Pro offers high resolution color images of all of the earth's surface, currently it is not possible to import color images into Civil 3D. This is a limitation of the Google Earth API which only allows low resolution grayscale images.

To work around this issue, export the high resolution color images from Google Earth Pro, and then attach them over the surfaces brought into Civil 3D.

  Utility Design

Arizona Public Service selected Autodesk to provide utility transmission and distribution design software to modernize its design processes. The utility is expecting a 25% increase in productivity.

As the largest publicly owned utility company in Arizona, APS serves more than a million customers. Currently, APS' design processes rely on a variety of systems and require manual interfaces to access engineering design information across GIS, work management, and material ordering systems. To manage its expanding transmission and distribution infrastructure, APS is developing an integrated distribution operations management system based on Autodesk's Utility Design.

Utility Design provides standard business rules for engineering activities, but also integrates design data with APS' GIS system.
