  Blog: Replacement for Inventor View

IMAGINiT's Manufacturing Solutions Blogger, Caleb Funk, shares his insight on Autodesk's manufacturing software including Inventor, Mechanical Desktop and Mechanical. In this month's newsletter, Doug shares an excerpt of his blog:

Inventor View 2009 is a no-show. Well, that is not exactly true. It did ship on the DVD with Inventor, but it is not currently available for download. Autodesk has said that there is a conflict with AutoCAD Mechanical and Inventor View 2009, and until this is resolved it cannot be posted for download.

This has caused a problem for some of my customers who use Inventor View for sharing data with vendors or clients that do not have Inventor installed. An intermediate solution is to create DWF or PDF files, and direct anyone who needs to view the files to download the appropriate viewer,

  Blog: Alias 2009 - Can't Wait!

IMAGINiT's Industrial Design Business Development Manager Shad Hardy, shares his insight on Industrial Design software. In this month's newsletter, Shad shares an excerpt of his blog:

Autodesk has done it again. The new AliasStudio 2009 product is going to be awesome.

Let's talk about sketching for a moment. You can do away with printing through your old, multi-step way and just print your pretty canvas sketches right from the print window. Nice.

What about user prefs? How about a unique way of saving them out so it's not so confusing? Done!

How about a new paintbrush? Done! What about a better way of mixing colors so you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get a dark red turn pink? Done! They've even made it easier to work with the layer editor so you can manage your layers better amongst other hidden gems.

  Green Automobile Design: Palumbo

Palumbo Motorcar Company of America  uses Autodesk's Inventor and AliasStudio software to design a high-performance, environmentally friendly concept car called the Palumbo M-80.

Powered by a hybrid gas-electric drive train, the Palumbo M-80 will provide the high-end sports car market with an automobile that delivers not just speed and acceleration, but outstanding fuel economy and minimal environmental impact.

Both Inventor and AliasStudio played a central role in developing the 3D concept designs, drawings and components for the Palumbo M-80. Inventor provided 3D design and documentation,  routed systems, and validated designs. AliasStudio provided conceptual designs, shape definition, sketching and visualization through production modeling.

Palumbo Motorcar is focused on environmentally friendly sports cars -- to promote a cleaner environment.

  New MDT Distribution

With the release of the Inventor 2009 products, Autodesk is changing the way you receive the Mechanical Desktop. The software is no longer included on the Inventor DVD, but Inventor 2009 users  can obtain it free as a download from www.autodesk.com/mdt.

The download page includes a short questionnaire that lets Autodesk better understand how current Mechanical Desktop customers use the software. After you complete the questionnaire, you can request MDT on a CD.

  Tip: Hotfix for Inventor Crash
(Applies to: Inventor 2008 and Productstream Professional 2008)

This hotfix addresses an issue where generating a DWF secondary file using a background Inventor process from Productstream Professional causes Inventor to create a CER (customer error report) when finishing.

Included with this hotfix is a solution to the issue where Inventor sometimes crashes when transferring a Boolean user defined property to Productstream Professional as part of a Bill of Material.
