Blog: Marshmallow Launcher

IMAGINiT's Manufacturing Solutions Blogger, Mark Flayler, shares his insight on Autodesk's manufacturing software including Inventor, Mechanical Desktop and Mechanical. In this month's newsletter, Mark shares an excerpt of his blog:

This one is for you campers out there. Here is a fun little piece of equipment you can make at home and provides hours of campfire and outdoor fun.

This Marshmallow launcher will project a mini-marshmallow up to about twenty-five feet. Make sure you let them stale up a little bit before using. If you plan on painting the launcher (mine is camouflage green), make sure you use plastic primer on the tubing. Also do not fully seal the pieces together as you will sometimes need to liberate a lodged marshmallow.

Blog: You want my Parts List to look like what?

IMAGINiT's Manufacturing Solutions Blogger, Mark Flayler, shares his insight on Autodesk's manufacturing software including Inventor, Mechanical Desktop and Mechanical. In this month's newsletter, Mark shares an excerpt of his blog:

Some of the enhancements of Inventor 2009 have gone unnoticed by some users over the months since its release. One of the most notable is the option to format your exported parameters. This has a lot of usage in downstream workflows such as Parts Lists, Bills of Material, and even their export to metadata searches in Vault or Productstream.

Another enhancement was the option to edit your expressions in your iProsperities into formulas and be able to modify them easier. The iProperty expression itself was introduced in 2008, but they used to be more difficult to modify.

Tip: Second Screen No Longer Available

(Applies to: Inventor 11, 2008, 2009 )
You were running Inventor on a dual-monitor display, and then switched to a single-monitor display. When you now start Inventor, it is not visible.

  2. Click Start menu, and then choose Run.
  3. In the Run dialog box, enter regedit
  4. In the Registry Editor, locate the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion[VersionNumber]\System\Preferences\Window

Note: The VersionNumber depends on the installation of Inventor:

  • Inventor 2009 -- 13.0
  • Inventor 2008 -- 12.0
  • Inventor 11 -- 11.0
  1. Delete the subkey WindowPos.
  2. Exit the Registry Editor.

  Green Design: Creating Sustainable Products

In the greening world, the exceptional challenge of how to create more eco-friendly products begs the attention of engineers and manufacturers. How can we create a sustainable product that meets or exceeds design aesthetics, performance and price of a non-sustainable product?

As manufacturers begin to slowly adopt green design, industry experts are realizing the importance of considering environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle. Through careful materials decisions and by utilizing Autodesk's Digital Prototyping solutions, manufacturers can bring together design data from all phases of product development to cost-effectively validate both the economic and ecological viability of a design.

Kevin Schneider, product manager for Autodesk Manufacturing Solutions, explains that the guiding principals of sustainable design and Digital Prototyping demystify fallacies in the marketplace surrounding eco-design.

Autodesk is leading the industry in sustainable design capabilities. As proof, leading customers have found success by limiting physical prototypes and embracing Digital Prototyping practices.
