Design: Research in Antarctic
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is responsible for the United Kingdom's national scientific activities in Antarctica, and uses Autodesk’s Inventor software to design tools to research climate change, ozone depletion, and change in sea levels.
Scientists know that the Antarctic ice sheet has grown and shrunk over geological history. Ice core samples show that during the last 800,000 years, the earth experienced eight glacial cycles with ice ages and warmer periods. The BAS engineering team produces equipment for use in the field, such as a rugged digital camera system to monitor sea ice activity, a star-pointing telescope to measure the ozone in the atmosphere, and an ice core drill that takes samples dating back tens of thousands of years.
The BAS engineering team relies on Inventor to generate 3D digital models that minimize the need for physical prototypes. This reduces the number of engineering changes that are costly. "Inventor has proved invaluable in checking for interferences and making sure all the components fit together," said Andy Tait, a mechanical design engineer at BAS. "Sometimes it could be something simple, like the device being the wrong size to handle when wearing gloves."

Blog: What Do You Think About Green?
IMAGINiT's Industrial Design Business Development Manager Shad Hardy, shares his insight on Industrial Design software. In this month's newsletter, Shad shares an excerpt of his blog:
I'm talking about the green initiatives that most companies are putting together to make them look savvy, up to date, and credible like they all of a sudden care about the environment.
Industrial Design along with the Architectural groups are at the forefront of making products, buildings, and other things more palatable to the consumer and put a stop gap in us making holes in our ozone and mounds of garbage that we don't know what to do with. Here is a listing of articles that I found interesting on the color green as it relates to Industrial Design.
