American Stair
Corporation
has been an iconic supplier | fabricator for stairs in the
construction industry for more than 50 years.
They are expanding their
CAD
deliverables to include Revit-BIM deliverables.
American Stair's first task is to provide general 3D Revit-BIM
stair-railing models to general contractors that are coordinating
the clash detection of a BIM-based project model.
Visualization for the fabrication of complex stair systems, is
just one key benefit; that American Stair is beginning to realize
internally.
Below is 1 of the 12 project stairs we began modeling during
my visit this week. The West Coast GC is using
NavisWorks
(in the job trailer) to coordinate the BIM deliverables from the
subcontractors.
American Stair began modeling these stair-railings from 2D
architectural and structural AutoCAD DWG files.

Prior to starting, we re-created their titleblocks,
lineweights and pen settings standards from their AutoCAD
standards for their new Revit templates.
