Today, engineering students spend a lot of time learning computer-aided software. However, when it comes to learning theoretical concepts, students are having difficulty. In the article Gaming the Curriculum by Phillip Wankat and Frank Oreovicz, they state “Engineering professors may need to add games that teach fundamentals to their teaching repertoire”. By teaching lessons through video games with little formal instructions, they suggest this will help students learn more efficiently since many students are gamers. Gamers often skip video game instructions because trial and error is much faster. By integrating this methodology into the curriculum, students will go through the same trial and error approach to help understand the fundamentals of engineering.
